It's my birthday, I'll be sad if I want to

So, my birthday then.

As has been mentioned, meet this evening at 7 in the Salisbury. For those who are free and easy, myself and [livejournal.com profile] pkgem will be in Piccadilly Gardens from 5pm onwards.

Haul so far:
Four (4) DVDS (Sooty And Sweep, Star Wars episode IV, Blazing Saddles, Labyrinth)
One (1) Thundercats T-Shirt
One (1) big-ass stereo system
One (1) shitload of cold hard cash.

The Star Wars DVD is intriguing; the blurb makes it very clear that you have not in fact purchased the original theatrical release of Star Wars. You have actually bought the Super Special Remastereded Magical Update Revisionist History Edition (With Extra Dinosaurs), and the OTR is included as a "bonus feature" for old times' sake, ho ho, look at how crappy it is not like this new version which is the one that you have bought YOU SELLOUT.

The sad thing (as referenced in the title) of the day was that my first thought was to put the OTR disc in to check the quality - and then put the SSRMURHE(WED) disc in to compare.

(Conclusion: The OTR is perfectly acceptable quality. The main difference, THX surround sound aside, is that the colours are slightly washed out - but jumping from that to the SSRMURHE(WED) edition made Tatooine's desert seem almost luridly bright, decked out in jolly primary colours. Blech.)

I think the original versions are the actual original versions, rather than the remastered ones with restored colour and cleaned up special effects that made it to video some time before they added in all that CG.

p.s. Happy birthday

They are very much so, ripped from some old laserdisc that they had lying around. You get both versions - the Super Special With Extra Dinosaurs edition, and the original ("proper") version on the "bonus features" disc.

You may have either a happy birthday or a wish that George Lucas burns in hell as he richly deserves. But not both.
