Things keep occurring to me about Robin Hood, I shall bullet point them:

  • Was v disappointed at lack of "Much" jokes. I demand at least a "Jealous, Much?" before the end of the series.
  • Am wondering if elevation of Much from manservant to live-in chum is a Blackadder reference.
  • This iteration has Robin as successfully reclaiming his title, then effectively giving it up in the name of right. Not sure whether other versions had that element of choice - seem to recall most of them being that he is in some way swindled or cheated out of rightful title and lands. Am not sure which is more noble.
  • Most sympathetic character in ep #1 was possibly the guard who had Robin at arrowpoint and hesitated. Could be read as clumsy scripting, but in my mind he was, for that moment, questioning his orders, reluctant to open fire on a clearly good man. Glance to Sherrif for confirmation lends credence to this. May start fansite for this guard.

That is all, now back to work.

"most of them being that he is in some way swindled or cheated out of rightful title and lands"

Well he was in this case as well. The Sherif deliberatly put him into an untenable position so he would forfeit his lands and be declared outlaw.

I suspect that despite clumsy attempts otherwise, you would have this Sherrif with mayonnaise.

And the Old Guard fella - the previous prime minister Sherrif - suggested he do so. Compromise and fight the system from within, egads!

The idea, I think, was to force Robin to join the fat cat nobles and live in luxury.

I think that apart from Keith Allan and Guy of Gisburn (in his newby LARPer leather trenchcoat) the cast are uniformly annoying. The show is mostly crap, but I might watch it again out of intrigue.

Yeah, I just watched #1 and I really did not want to expect the worst from it, so it didn't work all that well for me. Personally, it felt like it was straddling the line between being something serious and something fun, and didn't strive boldly in either direction.

Some shows get better with age, so maybe I'll like a 2nd or 3rd season of it...
