Oh![1] Looks like if I use the handy-dandy V11 form that arrived a week or two back, I might not need to get the MOT before I tax it after all.

This strikes me simultaneously as a Good Thing (because people will not be pressured into rushing their MOTs, or letting their tax lapse in order to get their vehicle roadworthy) and Phenomenally Stupid (because people can let their MOT lapse and still be taxed). I guess it's the insurance that's the safety valve in this situation, you still need to be MOT'd to be insured, and you need to be insured to be taxed.

Still, that takes the pressure off me a little.

EDIT: No, never mind, I am a fool.

Erm, no you need a MOT to get tax. However MOT's are now held on a central computer so the DVLA *know*.

to use the web ordering site you need to have new style MOT certificate which is updated on the DVLAs computers as soon as issued. On the upside I ordered my new tax disc friday & recieved it today.

Was it the garage at the traffic lights you tried? There's another one nearby but can't remember where off top of my head. The father girl that works in supercuts in the arndale runs it.

If your MOT doesn't run out until the end of the week you can still use it to get your new tax. As long as you have an MOT that is valid on the day you purchase the tax you should be ok I think.
