I was given to understand that marketing was an extensive process, and that in this media-driven society the multinational corporations would spend millions of dollars developing precisely the best logo for their product.

Sometimes, apparently, you just take a typeface you like and slap it across the front.

LOL. Its the same for taglines, I've found. While driving back from somewhere (I think it may have been the 1930s event, if so I was probably drunk and/or sleep deprived...) we saw a Poundland truck driving ahead of us. The tagline they seem to be using is:

"You can't beleive what you can get for a pound"

To which my response was - that Tagline, apparently. And possibly their entire advertising infrastructure :)

Anyway, graphic designers and advertisers have been cheating like that for years. They get given a project, look at it like a bunch of hick motor mechanics while rubbing their jaws and saying 'Tut, it'll cost ya', present a whole spreadsheet of projected completion times and multimillion dollar costs and then bugger off down the pub and spend half an hour doing the entire thing on the back of an old newspaper. Then some office junior is expected to transfer it to a powerpoint slide for presentation... :)

Dont forget they'll charge you for silver bullets, as at first they where working under the assumption that they where going to be attack by werewolfs.
