Christmas, still in Ilkley, but wanting to post a link to this article I read in Monday's Times (which my uncle Bob reads). An overenthusiastic review of Sunday's Doctor Who Christmas special, with which (block caps aside) I take issue only on the following passage:
Of course, gay men always give the most exquisite and generous of gifts, so it was little wonder that Russell T. Davies, the head writer and fairy godfather of Doctor Who (BBC One), made the "Christmas Day special" not just a treat for those ovulating on the 25th — which, to be frank, would have been every female viewer at the point where David Tennant burst out of the Tardis for the first time — but a thrill for everyone.

The precise nature of the umbrage I have taken is left as an exercise for the reader.

The Times is a rag. My current 'spot the bigot' game involves watching The Mail and The Evening Standard quietly grind it's teeth over the supreme competence of Metropolitan Police Chief Brian Paddick.

You're like a faerie godmother, what with your pink taffeta evening gown, little twinkly wings, and your "magic wand". I always felt there was something marvellous about your type.

I'm sorry - but - 'ovulating'?? WTF? Have you made a typo or did some w*nker actually write that?

Standing Ovulation?

I missed Dr Who, Alas.

I can see what you mean. Way to keep those stereotypes alive, writers!

Finally watched TCI. Dug it. Ignored some of the more spotty dialogue. My faith in the coming season is renewed.

Can we possibly get more U.N.I.T., but less Jackie?
