Illegal downloading is killing legal downloading

Apparently the BBC are looking into selling programs over the internet.

They're also thinking about inserting advertising into the site when viewed from outside the UK.  Not something I, being inside the UK, have a problem with.  There are some privacy issues surrounding the ability to determine where people are - I've thought it very rude that Google, for example, shunts me to google.co.uk - but at the end of the day knowing what country you're in is not that big a deal.

I think every website around the world should follow the BBC's lead - no ads at all when viewed from the UK, giant intrusive banners, borders, popups and interstitials when viewed from anywhere else.
