With two of the sockets at the computer rear taken up by the cables for the monitors^[1], that's a potential total of 12 USB sockets right there. I'm using two (keyboard and mouse, going through the monitor for convenience).

I can't help but feel like I need more gadgets...

[1] That's for the monitor USB sockets only - there's a separate video cable. Who would use USB for a monitor connection? Don't be mental.
