In other news: Stereo arrived fine (at specified delivery address, no less). Now I have to install it. Upon inspection it appears Old Stereo does not have standard crazy hook removal system, but requires screwdriver. I am in fear that my shiny new stereo may not fit, but we shall see at lunch time.

I fought the law and the law won

Tried to remove old car stereo. Failed. Now fingers are covered with tiny cuts. BLOOD AND SWEAT.

See, I thought it needed unscrewing, but on further examination (after running around looking for a screwdriver, removing the screws, wiggling the various parts around for a bit) I decided that those big, obvious screws were in fact holding vital parts onto other vital parts. The stereo was now flapping about with no contact between the bits at the side (for pulling, I think) and the big chunky bit behind. So I screwed it back in and tried inserting the "handle" bits (really two bits of bent rough metal) that came with the new stereo. The stereo now refused to move. Hence the painful sensation inmy fingers. Am also wet from rain.

John has kindly volunteered to have a look at it later. Will keep you posted.

CAR STERAEO UPDAEDT

Lovely John helped me remove my old stereo, despite his bad back. I was right about the initial unscrewing, except there were more screws at the back and a bolt. Now I have no stereo, because I need to buy an adaptor. But once I do, it is a simple matter of plug and play. And screw. And bolt. THEN I WILL BE GOOD dun dun dun dun dun dun dun
