Recap for the uninitiated: It began with a cardboard tube.

A little over a year ago, the artist at video-game-based webcomic Penny Arcade found a cardboard tube in the trash. He took it home and used it as a Samurai Sword of Justice and Death. Thus was the Cardboard Tube Samurai born. CTS has gleaned some small popularity among readers, and such is the recursive nature of things that some of this readership lies within the very industry that creates the games upon which PA casts its critical eye.

In Wednesday's news post, word reached Gabe that his famous cardboard tube was now available as an easter egg in the latest Legacy of Kain game. If screenshots are to be believed, it is true.

I can imagine the sheer feeling of glee that comes with finding something you made being referenced in a big media product like that. It's probably how the people behind Homestar Runner felt when Trogdor the Burninator featured in the final episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The closest thing I've had is the occasional stupid grin when I find somebody's stuck a Random Encounter up on their wall ... oh, and that one time when Kate Orman asked for permission to put one of my doodles up on her website. Yeah, that was pretty cool.

Boing! Time for bed.

Today was going to be a nightmare of logistics and extensive driving. I had to drop off Raj at the garage to have his brakes looked at, then walk home and drive my Mum's (unnamed) car to work, and then pick Raj up at some point - possibly after work - and then drive to [livejournal.com profile] ghostbritain's house in Bolton for Adventure! tonight. At some point I had to work in a trip to my Manchester home to pick up a couple of DVDs that I plan to watch with [livejournal.com profile] zheers tomorrow afternoon. The whole thing was getting a bit elaborate and I was considering giving up the DVD afternoon as too much effort.

Luckily I am ill today. Stomach was a bit owie this morning, and legs were a bit shaky, so I called in sick. This means I have plenty of time to orchestrate my garage maneuvering, and even head home early and spend a few hours in Manchester (picking up my DVDs and eating Weetabix®) before moseying on over to Bolton. I am feeling a bit better now but (cough cough) not well enough to go in to work...

But what was Raj doing in the garage? )

Scream of the Shalka pt 3 is up.

Quote roundup:

"Why did I choose continued existence, listening to him being right all the time, when I had the option of a slow, agonizing death?"

"Well, as the actress said to the bishop, I'm not human, and I don't care."

"We now understand the principles of your craft."
"Do you? Could you explain it to me?"

Now if I can just lay my hands on that theme tune...
