Angel Angel

I just thought I would share this one. Mr Chris Holland (XLJ) is planning to get a back tattoo, and elected to commission me to draw him one (presumably in some effort to avoid ever having to get it done). This is my latest proposal. Damn him for making me draw feet.

My most enduring memory of The Mary Whitehouse Experience[1] is their book, The Mary Whitehouse Encyclopedia, for the following entries[2]:

Feet: The natural enemy of the Artist.

Hands: See Feet.

It remains true to this day.

[2] Not in this order, obviously. It was all alphabetical and stuff.

Sounds familiar.

Uh, yeah in that order. Last time I checkd, F came before H in the alphabet.

Tattoos

One of the most important things to do when designing tattoos is to make sure that all of your main lines are very strong and that you keep shading to a minimum. Reason being that shading is apparently 'hard' in the same way as feet are.

Will you be colouring it in?

Anyway it is nice, however you need to think about the size of the final piece and if staying at that size or slightly larger it is fine. If full back then I would suggest having more smaller feathers and more detail in the body and sword as you can afford to with a blow up.

Not to sound too critical, but when designing something to go over a person's back, it is better to start with a surface of the same dimensions as the back.

That way (once you've measured Mr Holland) you'll know what size it needs to look good at, and can make it look good at that size.

As Katie said, you need to get a sheet of A3, get the back dimensions and then draw the tattoo at real size. This will lose a lot when blown up.

You may want to ask the person who will be scarred for life if he wants colour at all ...

Boots! Big chunky angelic metal boots, add a pauldron & a strap across the body & all will be well.
Alternativelt, grab me or someone else & get us to lie there and model feet for you.
You may want to look at the arms and hands, adding vambraces may help sort those out.

(Those than can, do; those that can't, critique)

Anyway - looks cool

Don't know much about what makes a nice tatoo or what not, but It is a fine picture.

I was talking to Chris today, and he asked me to gently remind you that theres a huge wadge of cash awaiting the finished product.

Don't use ash's feet!!!!

You want your art to live forever (or as long as Chris's skin)

I'm sure Paula will have it flayed off his back once he dies.

vambraces is a good idea as can be coloured - have you thought about a coloured wing motif? Different colours (possibly red and yellow to match sword and hair.

Except he might look like a dodgy super hero given too much red and yellow and not an angel of justice type.

I'd spend time talking to the subject to get his ideas - or even spend a night drawing the 'finished product' on his back in Biro or marker pen to see what it looks like

"Why do you think I'm bothering?"

So you can put your mark on his back and own him, using the connection as a means of performing secret Ju Ju rituals?
