Am annoyed with Will And Grace. In the beginning Will mocked Jack for being such a very stereotypical gay; nowadays there's very little real difference between them. I initially warmed to the show because - to put it bluntly - not all the gays were flamers. A lot of them were just regular people. And Will's sexuality wasn't the whole joke, though sure, some humour came from the contrasts.

I saw a show today where they were training a recent Out. (Which was bad enough in itself, of course, but if it was Jack and Karen it would be down to the characters' bad judgement.) But by the end they had shown that not only did every homo have to act that way to be accepted, but they'd also implied that it was somehow built in, no matter how resistant the subject initially proves. Very disappointing.

But enough about me.

This is the problem I find with some of the lighter american comedy - goes for the easy laugh. Try some of the darker comedy drama?

IIRC the sterotype thing only lasts while they're training the new Out guy. It's kind of like showing how it fit in with the majority immediately, until you are comfortable enough with yourself to be able to goat things in your own way without resorting to stereotypical behaviour.

This is a part of why the only television I own has no antenna; it's just so I have a larger screen for stuff like DVDs and TV-out.

I can't afford the "better" channels, and corporate network television just doesn't work for me enough of the time.

What you have to remember is that Will & Grace is just a one trick pony of a show.
It's entirely stereo-typical.

Jewish neuroses. attention deficit gays. Alchoholic rich women. The odd couple.

It didn't take a genius to dream up the concept (see 'gimme gimme gimme), in fact, i only suspect that it's good because the cast are very very good.

The jokes are poor poor poor.
