(no subject)

Last night was fun; hung out with [livejournal.com profile] batelf, [livejournal.com profile] bacony and her The Boy ([livejournal.com profile] pit_fishes), saw The Incredibles again, noticed some things I hadn't before (like all the Gazerbeam references before you find out where he actually is), saw the first disk of Firefly again, saw the Peacekeeper Wars all the way through for the first time.  A most excellent evening.

Katy and The Boy have the same smile, which is eerie.

My City of Heroes subscription will be up for renewal in a week or two and I do not think I will be renewing it.  I have not, after all, played it more than a couple of times in the last month or two.  I will miss the tangential contact with [livejournal.com profile] mrssshhh and [livejournal.com profile] arwel, as well as the prettiness and laxor cannons, but I think most of all I will miss the character genrator.  To be honest, though, the futility of it all was starting to get to me.  Get a mission, shoot some bad guys, get another mission, shoot some more ... all that really changes is the scenery.

That said, maybe now I'm actually in Manchester, where my games machine resides, I'll use it more ... or maybe I'll just quit until I have a firm job again.  What happens when you cancel your subscription, do they delete your characters or just put them on hold?

The Same Smile, the same evil powers, the same wavelength, and the tendancy to say the exact same thing at the same time.

The way I see it, we'll either move into a cheap house and spawn half a dozen young, or kill each other around February.

Evil Powers? what Evil Powers? I don't see no Evil Powers. (Shhhhh!)

Oh, and if there are any waines by Feburary, I'll be most surprised. :P

Check here for that CoH question, they just go inactive, don't get purged at the moment.

Ah well, I was looking forward to playing with you guys, if you get onto anything else in an online fashion (and I have a computer/broadband connection/house) tell us :).

I'm casually playing Star Wars Galaxies, but I don't really recommend it all that much, as it's mostly a single-person affair (mad as that sounds).

Might try Everquest II over January, to see what it's like and catch up with a few old friends on a roleplay server.

[identity profile] arwel.livejournal.com 2004-11-28 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Mufi and co. are playing Everquest 2 at the moment, it looks pretty, but I'm rather afraid it'll be too much like the first, which survived bareley a week on my HD. I may check World of Warcraft in the new year.

Ewan, Karen & Al all seem pretty taken with it. Lots of quest-based stuff ought to make things fun, too.

I'd be trying to find my old DAoC friends on a roleplay server if I do try it. Maybe we could give it a try in January - after all, it's only 25 quid and that's for a full month of seeing if we like it.

WoW is all about the PvP from what I've seen, and it really doesn't float my boat. That and the servers being totally lagged to fuck at launch - it doesn't fill me with confidence.

Ah, so that's where they've gone, the little scamps.

Also...

I think online RPGs should have PvP, at some point you're going to want to do something other than grind out levels. PvP looks reasonably well implemented in WoW.

The thing that puts me off trying EQ2 is the possibility of it all devolving into spawn camping and an endless level grind. I may give it a look, if no one else jumps on WoW.

Still not finished

Another thing in WoW's favour is that you get giant war goats.

Or better known as Evercrack 2,,,

I prefare the Title NeverRest :)
(which Im now a 17th lvl druid)
(Oh and I rock)

WOW does kick eq2s butt in certain aspects but it is allas not due out in the uk for 4 months yet grrrrrrr whare as EQ2 is here now.

[identity profile] arwel.livejournal.com 2004-11-29 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm wary of Euro releases of MMOs because you invariably have delays each time they patch it and have to do a language conversion for the sake of the non-English speaking world, which it seems the UK is part of. Still, now that most of Project Twilight have gone on to pastures new from CoH, the US servers are pretty empty when I'm on so getting a high level team together can be a chore, which is the major downer for playing on a US server.

Is there much farming certain spawns for loot in EQ2, or has it moved on from that? How accesible is it to playing for an hour here or there? One of the things that looks appealing about WoW is its accesability, much like CoH. Are there any war goats in it?

[identity profile] r-dragonsbain.livejournal.com 2004-11-29 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
There isnt to much farming for loot that ive seen so far. WOW seams easyer to just pick up and play for a bit then for get for a bit than EQ2. The crafting system in EQ2 is quit complex at times but quite rewarding if you stick with it but has to be done in front of certain macheans such as a loom for tailering and so forth. Where as WOW you can do it on the move. There can be No kill stealing in eq2 because once a group have entered into combat it locks the encounter meaning no one else can join in to help or hinder. Whist this dose stop peaple stealing your kills it also means you can not help someone out who is getting a kicking unless thay call for help which breaks the encounter. There is also a lot more loading of zones in EQ2 when you change map locations and so forth. You can ride horses and go fishing ihn both games so its not all bad. I think that EQ2 has more long term play, dispite its little flaws, however WOW is easyer to just pick up and play.

Alas I have not sean any war goats in either, allthough both have a site to site transport system via flying griphons. You just climb aboard and thay fly over the landscape to one of a few select destinations. Quite a cool feature as it renderes the whole ride including the mobs that you fly over on route.

Oh and EQ2 is none PvP.... WOW is PvP if you want to. Always nice to have the option of slapping someone silly when thay Really get on your nerves.

[identity profile] arwel.livejournal.com 2004-11-29 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Dwarven racial mount in WoW is the Ram, esentailly a giant war goat. Goats rule.

I may give EQ2 a nosy whilst I wait and see how WoW turns out before its Euro release.

[identity profile] mrssshhh.livejournal.com 2004-11-29 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
EQ2 will undoubtedly have PvP at some point in the future, be it in Arenas or Battlegrounds - it's just a case of when.

WoW's "PvP if you want to" isn't true - you may want to PvE on your own for a while, but in doing so you can be forced into a location where PvP is possible. At which point you get ganked. Over and over again until you want to cry.

[identity profile] arwel.livejournal.com 2004-11-29 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as I'm aware the area PvP is only on the PvP servers. It's only NPC raids that trigger PvP on the normal servers. Look!

[identity profile] arwel.livejournal.com 2004-11-29 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I stand corrected. I'm sure teathing troubles will be sorted out by the euro release. I have considerably more faith in Blizzard than SOE.
