A great many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on your point of view

Just checked my phone to see if there were any messages I missed. "Unregistered SIM", it said. Gah! That would explain why nobody's been calling - phone gone mental. Switched off and on again, and lo and behold three messages - one from Len, one from the garage, one from [livejournal.com profile] gowhonker.

Tried calling Len back to see what he wants - no answer. I am unsure whether to accept any offer of work from him if it is in fact an offer. On the one hand, work is work, and he has personally invested a lot in the company so I'd feel a bit bad about letting him down (and by the same token, I don't want to leave our healthcare clients in the lurch). On the other hand, I have little confidence in his ability to run a business; he's basically a salesperson, albeit a damn good one. Now from one point of view it's our side of the business (the non-procurement side) that's been carrying Procurement the last six months, so without them we may have a much better chance of success. From another perspective ... it's somebody I don't want to work for, in a place I have no wish to work, with no security to speak of and a very real danger of being out of work again in two months anyway. I think, on balance, not.

UPDATE: It's all academic, since Len was in fact calling to tell me that he'd been unsuccessful in securing the bla bla bla bla bla god that man does talk. Still, I'm glad he let me know; now I don't need to delay anything else on the off chance. My life with DS is officially over, thanks for coming. (PS, thanks to John for ringing also, I know he reads this ... if you'd made yourself a LJ account that I could add to my Friends, you'd have known that it wasn't as unexpected as it may seem from the public access entries.)

Garage is now booked in for tomorrow.

Nook has offered me larks and japes, and if this offer is still open I will take him up on it. I have that freedom now I know the garage is booked in for tomorrow. Sure, petrol doesn't grow on trees, but what the fuck.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: "Accept what you can't change, and change what you can." (Len Buck, who is made of cliché)

Hon, can't you make a living out of your cool drawings??

I thought you'd already done some freelance work? Your website is very impressive, surely you just need to nudge the right people in the right direction and the work would come flooding in???

Your drawings are amazing, you should invest your time into becoming self employed/full time freelance as I'm sure you'd make yourself a small fortune.

a prayer

Actually that's from a prayer 'Lord grant me the courage to change the things I can, the ability to accept the things I can't and the wisdom to tell the difference.' which I always quite liked as one.

So there you go...

I like that prayer too, even though I'm an atheist. Sound advice is sound advice no matter what the source. Personally, I like to start it by saying "O, Great Kitten Lord, grant me the courage...".
