Good morning livejournal
Nov. 19th, 2004 08:17 amI am filled with a newfound respect and admiration for Jolene Blalock - it seems she's just as unimpressed with Enterprise's behaviour as everybody else, and isn't afraid to say it.
"You can't substitute tits and ass for good storytelling. You can have both, but you can't substitute one for the other, because the audience is not stupid. You can't just throw in frivolous, uncharacteristic... well, bull and think it's gonna help the ratings!"
There are those actors who do SF because it's a job[1], and consider the genre to be "slumming it". Then there are those who treat every acting job as a Wonderful Adventure, no matter what the genre, and consider any character to be a rich tapestry of motivations and history worthy of consideration, exploration and development. Our Jolene seems to fit into the latter camp. (Though she also knows what's good for her - it's taken her three years to speak out.)
Or, maybe she's just more sensitive to audience reactions. Either way, go her. I may buy SFX this month...

Furthermore: Snow looks really nice falling past streetlights. I am glad I'm not heading off into - for example - the Lake District for long country walks this weekend.
[1] I'm just guessing, I have nothing to back that up.
