More news on the new Doctor Who series - we have pictures of what the redesigned Daleks look like.  Personally I think this a horrific abomination, this change is completely unnecessary - they could easily have just stuck with the old designs.  Fucking travesty, raping my childhood...

They have been blinged

They have gold trim, theei bodyskirt is flared more and the have some pimping accessories (thruster jets)

Their paintwork is 'tight' or possibly 'legit'

Doe anyone remember some comedy programme that had a 'camp daleks' sketch? What was it?! It's driving me mad!

There was a Spike Milligan show (one of the "Q" series) that had a sketch with Daleks in it. Was that it?

Nope - it was a comedy series with the 'Camp Daleks' as a semi-regular sketch on it. They had handbags on their plungers. The show was sort of similar to, I dunno, Absolutely maybe? I think it was from the early to mid-nineties. Had no look on google - camp and dalek just brings up regular Doctor Who links....

Ah - Googling for "Camp Daleks", on the other hand, brings up only a few entries, in association with Victor Lewis Smith. It rings a bell, it could have been "TV Offal" or "Inside Victor Lewis-Smith" .... Ah ha! TV Offal.

Probably the most controversial of TV Offal's regular features is the Gay Daleks: "They're camp ! They exterminate ! Better watch your backs ! It's the Gay Daleks !" You either feel that the sketches are crude, tasteless and offensive, or they're a splendid parody of both the Daleks and of gay cultural stereotypes; late night Channel 4 viewers (on the whole) would interpret them as the latter which is probably just as well given the content.

Speaking as a long time dalek fanboy (I had the DW RPG Dalek expansion pack and that kit of dozens of tiny model daleks, for example) I have to say I really like the new look. Far from being 'blinged' they look lot more industrial and chunky although the essential proportions and lines havent been changed. I'd still prefer to see the sensor domes a darker colour than the skirt.

I'll have to dust off my synopsis for 'Renaissance of the Daleks' :)
