The noise it makes is one of the best sci-fi noises evah.

According to the DVD commentary that I was watching last night (hence today's post), it is in the production notes as "ANGRY MACHINE". It was just a noise the animators slapped in until SFX could find something more appropriate, but everybody loved it so they kept it.
