Let's Spend The Night Together

Had a lovely evening at [livejournal.com profile] gowhonker's house.  We engaged in witty repartee, and then spent much of the evening watching special features from the Star Wars DVD (much of which was spent lamenting the lack of a Non-Special Edition DVD - the footage in the documentaries all seemed to be either original cut or production footage.  The really annoying thing about the Special Edition is that you can't even say the original was 100% better - there are the odd snippet, like the Falcon taking off, the Hoth assault and Bespin's cloud city, that are marked improvements over the original... hopefully there will be some sort of "Fan Cut" ultimate edition one day.  I can dream).  During this Si turned up to generate his Star Wars character, and at some point I started playing Jedi Outcast on the gamecube (using the Level Select feature to get to the good Jedi levels).  So it was a very Star Wars evening.

Later on [livejournal.com profile] myki and [livejournal.com profile] samharber turned up briefly to say "Hello, we're drunk", and then it was time for bed.  Nook even went so far as to sleep without music so I could get to sleep[1], which was very generous and thoughtful of him.  I felt bad about putting him out, though, so I will probably try something else to induce sleep in future, like a mug of hot chocolate or masturbation.  Regardless, it demonstrated once again that Nook is much more thoughtful and sweet and handsome and generous than most people realise.

In related news, Nook complained that I never say anything nice about him.

[1] In the spare room, again.  We're still not a couple.

That Bastard!

Katy was planning on teaching me how to get to sleep in 5 minutes flat. I've got the basics down now, maybe you should get her to teach you?

[identity profile] renniek.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
So, how do you do it? It often takes me ages to get to sleep

[identity profile] stsquad.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Basically (check with Katy, I may of got this wrong):

1. Listen to yourself breathing for a few minutes (takes practice to listen without controlling)
2. Relax your muscles from feet to head for a few minutes
3. Go through a story in you mind walking along a path....

that's sort of what we do at yoga. i ALWAYS fall asleep at the end of yoga.

mmmmmmm.

[identity profile] stsquad.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yoga's one of those things I want to get around to trying. My mum and grandma swear by it. At some point I will make some time for it.

I really enjoyed the physical stretching and the like (and the letching at the young bendy flesh around me) but I really couldn't cope with the hippy psychobabble ("and now you're the heart of the sun, exploding outwards..")

[identity profile] stsquad.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well I'm a (atheistic rationalist) hippy at heart :-)

Similar to what Alex said... (except for the cat stuff)

Don't think about the fact that you want to sleep. The more you do this, the more stressed you get and the more unlikely that you will lie awake for hours.
If you do not fall asleep instantly, then just relax and day-dream, convince yourself that you'll get just as much rest lying there relaxing (which you will because you'll fall asleep during it).

I often like to think about stuff that I'd like to remember to do in the morning - that way I always seems to fall asleep half-way through as my mind thwarts me once again!

Alternatively, listen to the soft purring of your beloved kitty... purr, purr, snooze... (p.s. you need to get a cat to do this. Do it. Now).

[livejournal.com profile] arwel sometimes gets an allergic reaction to cats. And I don't think the ratties would be too happy about a cat in the house.

I will try the daydreaming, though

Cats and rats get along fine. You know, once the cat has eaten the rats... oh, I see your point...

Arwel obviously needs more exposure to cats to overcome his defect. Hmmm... pland formulate...

Daydreaming works for me - even if I don't fall asleep straight away so long as I relax and don't get stressed about it (like I used to) then I wake up not feeling as tired as I would have done.

I so want a bug of hot chocolate, now. Crunchy on the outside, soft and frothy and hot on the inside. Mmmmmm.

[identity profile] wulfboy.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Now I look like a freak? Golly.

"Regardless, it demonstrated once again that Nook is much more thoughtful and sweet and handsome and generous than most people realise".

I've never doubted Nook's thoughtfulness and generosity. He has a reputation for being a git that he only deserves 10% of the time (and he does that on purpose).
Not sure about sweet and handsome, although, saying that, he does look handsome and dapper in his Best Man's outfit.
Still unsure about "sweet"...

Awwww. We look Nook.1

Andy loves you more. Because you're a couple

[identity profile] pkgem.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
You have never said otherwise. I, on the other hand, have eyes to see with and a mind to conjecture with.

[identity profile] pkgem.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
I waggle my eyebrows and smirk dirtily to myself.

[identity profile] gowhonker.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
I would prefer it if you said nice things about me on my LJ. I could use it as a strap line or something...

[identity profile] foul-temptress.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
i like to think of him as dapper swish swish

I dont think andy can be nooks other half as that would take attention away from me and im an affection leeching whore,

[identity profile] pkgem.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot argue with you. Mostly because you have sharp weapons ;->
