I have invites from several people who keep going 'it's fantastic, come along...' so I might end up there at the next event. :)

Don't know him, but have seen pictures of a couple of other people that I know. Kit in general looks far better than CP stuff, and there's a lot less armour, or maybe that's just what that event was like...?

There's very little metal armour at the event, though it is there if you look for it. This is partly because the majority of the characters are fairly social, partly because taking armour skills costs a fair amount of your starting character points, but (I think) mostly because it's the fashion - the game is frock coats and firearms. A big slab of metal will keep you standing up longer, but won't actually save your life from a single shot.

I did in fact have a shower at this event, on the middle day, so I probably didn't smell too bad. This was because my entire upper body was coated with brown makeup, and I wanted to keep my sleeping bag reasonably free of paint.

Also since Auguration I have switched from Pantene's "Perfect Curls" to "Smooth And Sleek" because my hair has plenty of body already. ... I just thought I should mention.
