Old Gods and Absent Cars
Oct. 8th, 2003 09:47 amToday I took my (automatic) car to the garage for a service and took my Mum's car to work. It's my first time driving manual transmission (stick shift) for about three months. Bizarrely, the clutch pedal is not what threw me, it was the acceleration; on the automatic I can just slam the pedal down and it'll accelerate smoothly, whereas on a manual the accelerator (gas pedal) controls the fuel going into the engine a lot more directly. The engine did a lot of roaring and more than a little jerking. Luckily Mum's car is expensive in the good way - functional rather than stylish - so it's really easy to drive, and even an idiot like me can get used to it after only a few minutes.
(UPDATE: The man from the garage has rung, and apparently the car needs about 700 pounds of work doing if it is to be roadworthy. I think I shall be junking it and repairing the old Metro ... Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.)
So what's your favourite God? Mine is the giant talking galaxy from Futurama. A lot of people yesterday took the question to mean "Which God do you most believe in/worship?" Really I just meant "Which do you like most?" or possibly "Which would you most like to be real?".

Favourite God

Oh well, let's be honest; if the Greek Pantheon ran the world it'd be more interesting and there'd be a lot more sudden and unexpected ironic punishments.
