NWO

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis emailed me my player pack yesterday, having already posted it to me by post. I'm probably going to have to be a lot more on the ball than I was expecting, and oh God, I have to remember names and places and all sorts of things. Still, the brief gains enormous points for the appearance of a wholly unexpected name. It's only mentioned in passing so I don't expect to see him at the event, but still, it's nice to know the Demon's Head exists in the game world...

(Oh, and I'm not talking about Divis Mal. Though that, too, does amuse.)

The rules are pleasingly simple, though there doesn't seem to be any sort of limit on how many times you can cast spells at or below your Art level. Maybe I've just not got to the part about Twilight yet. Or something. Parma VioletsMagica is so the way to go.

LINK OF THE DAY: They don't make 'em like this any more. Damn, I'd forgotten how good this advert was... (NOOISEY)

Sonic

Ooooo, don't suppose you've got the music from the marble levels of Sonic 1?

Ah, the memories.

Yeah yeah. Still, toe the line or your ass is on the line.*

Look Cicero - I can balance a ball on my nose!

* Variation on original in case it appeared too suggestive.

There is no limit on how many spells you can cast each day, just a limit on how long you can take between the castings.

The same is true of the tabletop game; as long as you're casting formulaic magic, you can keep casting as long as you want.

At a previous game (The Levant, IIRC) I had to cast about 30 - 40 sense the nature of vis spells because we needed to check an entire tent's contents for magic.

This is a game for Mages; this isn't D+D :-)

*grin*

For clarity (though you probably know this already) you can only cast spells at a higher strength than your art by using Vis or booster pool, both of which are limited resources, and you can only cast the formulaic spells you know (but you can cast all of the spells in the NWO rules up to the level of your art, which is a change from previous games.)

Plus all your secret snacky spells as well.

I can make so much food if i can just get some phys-reps. Hmmmm. Who else likes flies?

[identity profile] jfs.livejournal.com 2004-07-02 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
*grin* I must admit, that's the one spell I really don't see the point of.

"I can cast this spell, meaning that everyone here can eat non-real food and get no benefit from it (if I prepare the physrep, which is real food) or I can say "here, everyone, eat my real food"."

Given you have to provide your own physrep ...

Of course, if NWO provided the physrep I'd be casting it every time I got hungry.

Until Ian killed me.

Vis.

and it's pronounced with a V, not a poncy W :-)

("Welease Woderwick"? W*anker ... )

When I learnt Spanish, I was taught Castillian Spanish (like what they speak in Spain)which involves several of the words being pronounced as if you have a lisp.

My spanish teacher at the time warned us that if we ever went to South America and spoke Spanish there, to pronounce all those words without the lisp, because the natives of that continent tend to look down on people who speak Castillian as being somewhat effeminate. (Actually, he was clearer than that, but these were in the days before political correctness.)

I have much the same attitude to people who can't pronounce a V as a V. If it were a W, it would look like one.

Bah.

At Transylvania I had two people say Weeeeez to me. Admittedly, I missed most of the first person's conversation (he bored me, and I was far more concerned about [livejournal.com profile] november_girl's "charms" having an effect on my minions chumps scapegoats most powerful masters...), but saying Weeeeez just made them sound either extremely pompous or undescribably stupid.

Unless I eat Ian?

This, too, would lead to your swift death.

I am, as is well known, poisonous at events.

Has anyone tried using it to make latex melons/coconuts and thrown them at people yelling "Single" at the top of their little lungs, do you know?

[identity profile] jfs.livejournal.com 2004-07-02 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Some magi do.

[identity profile] pax-draconis.livejournal.com 2004-07-03 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
This would not take long.

It's a very fun game with elegant rules and wonderful writing. And a quick look through the player list features most of the great and the good of UK LRP, imho.

You mean fat don't you.

Just because you're putting weight on.... I'll start calling you the Fat Hat at the next Maelstrom if you are not careful!
