"I told you it was a bad idea," she admonished. "You can’t pull your assistant out of a hat, and you certainly can’t pull yourself!"
"All acts have their teething troubles," he replied, unflustered. "All we have to do is find the hat we came in by."
Cynthia looked around them. Hats and rabbits, as far as she could see. Every now and then a gloved hand would reach out of a hat, seize a rabbit and withdraw.
"It’s hopeless," she moaned. "There are too many hats."
