Large Scale Fest LRP: Either the Lorien Trust or
Curious Pastimes, it's the McDonalds of the LRP
world for you! Sit in a field with four
thousand people, no plot to speak of, and too
much beer, and have an enormous fight at the
end!

Omega LRP: the twice-yearly player-led campaign is
for you! Paint yourself ridiculous colours,
blow people up and trade in commodities that
no-one knows the value of or how to use! Plus,
a year-round plot, but watch out! It might get
you killed...

NWO scares me. On a deep and fundamental level.

Given the choice between a free ticket and hiding under my duvet in bed at home I'd probably go for the hiding option, and I'd double lock my door too just in case.

So you dont create the character yourself? you just play what they tell you to?

There are (about) 100 characters, so there's a reasonable chance that you'll get a part that you're happy with. It's based on Ars Magica (if that makes any sense to you - if it doesn't, [livejournal.com profile] kingandy's description is close enough for horseshoes) and technically it's more a freeform than an LRP.

The reason that your character is written for you rather than you making it up yourself is so that you fit into the world and the plot - by the time the event starts you can guarantee that you'll know several secrets about yourself and other people, and have a pretty good idea that some other people know secrets about you. This means that it's very rare indeed for people to complain that there's nothing going on. On the other hand, not having control of their own character generation drives other people to destraction. As Andy said, it's not a game for everyone's tastes.

Ah...its sounds a good way of doing things really, although I now understand the idea of why it might be invite only as to suit a character to a person well, they may need to know the people in question that wish to play enough to write well for them.

It's actually more because there are only 100 parts and there's a slavering playerbase who want to keep being involved. However, given drop-outs and clashes, there have been a few new faces at each game.

There is only one more game planned in this story however, in May next year, so if you'd like to come, I'd suggest either dropping a comment onto [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis's journal, or on the forum at http://www.nwogames.co.uk/
