Hurts so good

As part of my new "Sexy Beast" fitness regime, I went on an hour-long walk this lunchtime. At first it hurt - I felt tired and was out of breath after about 15 minutes, but I was determined to see if I could make it to the pub and back. Ultimately I couldn't (the pub is about 5-10 minutes' drive away along a 60mph main road, though I was walking along a twisty turny back road because it's probably less actual distance and the scenery is nicer) but I'm glad I kept going because it was much easier on the way back. Not just because it was the way back, but also because my muscles were getting all warmed up and I was getting into the swing of it. Also there were cows and a bridge over a stream. At the end of it I felt much fitter, and quite weary - not exhausted, just spent. Perhaps tomorrow I will try for the nearer pub; it's slightly closer to the estate, though it does mean leaving through the front exit which means I have to travel through the estate itself. This will no doubt be an adventure.

If I reach the pub I will take a fruit juice, or possibly a cold water, in order to refresh and fortify myself for the return journey. Incidentally, according to one site I happened across, drinking ice cold water is an excellent way of burning energy while you sit on your ass, as your body naturally heats the water to body temperature. At work this has the added bonus of getting me waking up and down stairs since the water cooler is downstairs.

I do hope I can keep up the momentum on this Walks At Lunchtime thing ... winter is encroaching fast and I may be put off by the cold. Well, we shall see.

You've got the right idea...

Personally I find a pint of ice cold Stella after the gym tastes fantastic and makes a suitable reward for my efforts. Don't be put of by the cold, otherwise we might have to start calling you a southerner :-)

Well done matey...

Have you considered getting a bike as we are not unknown to have a bit of a cycle around the nicer areas of Halifax where Scouse lives for our healthy exercise type stuff. Not far away from you during the week.
