Some months back Ant successfully applied for a post with the disability department at the University. Somewhat disappointingly, it was on an "as needed" basis and until now they've not needed him. However they've apparently been in touch to see if he'd be interested in working with a student with Asperger's.

Naturally I've been reading all about it.
"Unlike those with autism, people with AS are not usually withdrawn around others; they approach others, even if awkwardly, for example by engaging in a one-sided, long-winded speech about a favorite topic while being oblivious to the listener's feelings or reactions, such as signs of boredom or haste to leave. ..... People with Asperger syndrome often display behavior, interests, and activities that are restricted and repetitive and are sometimes abnormally intense or focused."
Man, this shit describes half the people I know.

In the end I decided to go with T-Mobile for my broadband needs. The reasons are thusfold:

1) Though there's no package deal for getting both mobile and broadband from them, there's a small chance that the rental on the "second line" will fall under my "Friend of an Employee Half Price Line Rental" discount[1]
2) They seemed reasonably priced and I approve of their "fair use" bandwidth policy
3) I could go to the shop and walk away with the broadband in my hand, without waiting for somebody to come to my house and physically install it and pay them for the privilege (and/or wait for a router to arrive).

Now ... if only I can find that bluetooth dongle, maybe I can set my PDA up to use the puter as a gateway.

PS SEND ME YOUR PHONE NUMBERS

[1] suppose I could have checked this with the employee first but never mind
