On Saturday I picked up new glasses, and I was most impressed.  They were a great improvement on the old ones (which I have had for something like six years and were never really the proper prescription to start with), sharper and lighter and better looking.

However, when I came to put them on in the evening, they were less satisfactory.  The left lens was suddenly impossible to focus through[1] and, when I took note of the frame as I put them on and off a few times, I realised they are not quite wide enough for my head - the front of the frame is kept in a constant state of tension.  Apart from worrying about the long-term effects on the spectacles (I now hear a little creak when I take them off), the way they squeeze the side of my head is not entirely comfortable for an entire day (as I found today).  On top of this, the plastic sleeves appear to be loose on the arms.  I am going to have to go back in tomorrow and question them on the subject.  Perhaps another eye test, having not worn contact lenses for an entire day.

In other news:  Went around to [livejournal.com profile] batelf's place last night with [livejournal.com profile] bacony, watched Black Books and Indiana Jones and ate cake, it was good.  I made Chris a CD for his birthday - I have no real idea about his taste in music, which is quite shocking really, but I hope he'll like it.  It is an eclectic selection.  I post a track listing:  here. )

[1] This is not, in itself, entirely extraordinary.  When you wear contact lenses and you take an eye test somewhere where they don't have your contact lens prescription they ask you not to put your contact lenses in at all that day, because wearing the lenses changes the shape of your eye.  All perfectly normal, eyes being bags of jelly and thus having a good degree of give.  Now that I'm aware of it I can tell that the left lens isn't quite as sharp as the right.  The left lens is almost right for my "just woken up, refreshed from a night's sleep" eyes, but the difference in my left eye over the course of the day is enough that the lens becomes useless.
